The debate over whether an Apple iPad can replace a laptop remains polarized. But with the launch of the next iteration of  iOS ,  Apple  could finally remove one of the longest-running arguments against the iPad as a productivity device. The iPad is on track to get mouse support for the first time, according to  Federico Viticci , editor in chief of  MacStories . Viticci revealed his scoop on  episode 239 of the Connected podcast . Apple introduced its new iPads with an A12X chipset two days ago and the first benchmarks already started popping. Two listings on Geekbench revealed that the smaller iPad Pro will have 4 GB RAM, while the bigger will sport 6 GB RAM, but what is more impressive is the multi-core score that is around 18,000. If you are wondering what Apple's October 30 event is all about, the notorious Ming-Chi Kuo analyst thinks he has an idea and given his good track record of predictions, he might be onto something here. Kuo says that Apple is going to refresh its iPad Pro lineup, which was always expected to be the main event. Rumors claim that the company will announce new Apple Pencil, Face ID, slimmer bezels, no Home button and USB-C connector instead of Apple's proprietary Lightning port. More surprisingly, Kuo says that the Cupertino-based company is looking to refresh its iPad mini lineup with new processor and display. A processor bump and Apple Pencil support The new iPad is very familiar. It has the same basic 9.7-inch screen size, bezels, Touch ID sensor, button placement, and cameras. The big new features are Apple Pencil support, which works the same as it did on the iPad Pro, and an update to the A10 processor. As with the previous iPad, it has 10 hours of battery life, an 8-megapixel rear camera that supports 1080p video, a front-facing FaceTime HD camera, supports optional LTE, and weighs one pound. Interestingly, there is no Smart Keyboard connector, which seems like a big omission. Holding and using the iPad, it feels very much like an iPad! The air gap on the screen is the same as before — large by iPad Pro standards, but only iPad Pro people will really turn their nose up at it.
