BlackBerry will remove paid apps from the BlackBerry World app store on April 1st

BlackBerry Limited, the company that manages BlackBerry brand licensing and software, today began informing some app developers that it will forcibly remove paid software from the BlackBerry World app store on April 1st. BlackBerry says the marketplace will become a “free-only storefront,” and that “all purchasing mechanisms will be disabled.” Apps can still be monetized, the company says, but payment backends must be supported by the developer and built into the app itself. Refunds for paid content will be supported until April 30th, 2018, the note confirms, and customers will retain access to paid content even after it is removed. If a developer chooses not to transition an app from paid to free, the company will remove it by March 31st. Effectively, BlackBerry is announcing the end of BlackBerry World here,  as developer Steve Troughton-Smith notes on Twitter , where he posted the notice from the company and called it the final “nail in the coffin” for BB10, BlackBerry...

Moto G6 Play leaked images show off a Moto X4-like design and bezel-less display

Lenovo Motos upcoming smartphone series includes a new E-series and G-series lineup. While the three Moto E phones have been leaked in the past -- the Moto E5, Moto E5 Play and the Moto E5 Plus -- that replace the Moto C phones of 2017, three Moto G phones -- Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and the Moto G6 Play -- are also rumoured that would fill the Moto G5(s) boots. New leaked images show off the design of Moto G6 Play in full glory. The Moto G6 Play has been leaked by the Taiwanese certification agency NCC and was first spotted by TrendyTechz. The Play variant is said to be cheaper of the three Moto G6 phones, housing a lower end chip and a big battery. But from the photos it is clear that it carries an upgraded design taken from the more premium Moto X4 (but it may not be waterproof). The phone appears to have a metal unibody design with a thin-bezel display at front. The glass back is rounded at the edges and there is also a single-sensor camera module dominating the rear. The fin...

Bill Gates says US will have another financial crisis similar to 2008

Many economists consider the financial crisis of 2008 to be the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. According to  Bill Gates , the US is heading toward another one just like it. On Tuesday, the  Microsoft  founder held an “Ask Me Anything” event on Reddit. When a user asked, “Do you think in the near future, we will have another financial crisis similar to the one in 2008?” Gates replied with a stern – but still optimistic – warning. “Yes. It is hard to say when but this is a certainty,” Gates said. “Fortunately we got through that one reasonably well. Gates then deferred to his friend and fellow billionaire philanthropist  Warren Buffett , saying, “Warren has talked about this and he understands this area far better than I do.” The 2008 crisis led to the Great  Recession , which saw 8.8 million jobs lost. The net worth of households across the US fell by more than $19 trillion, and the number of homeless families increased. Gates ...

Aircel, country's last small mobile phone operator, go for bankruptcy

Aircel , the debt-ridden  mobile  service provider, and its two units filed for bankruptcy in the National Company Law Tribunal, underscoring the struggles of India’s smaller telcos in a brutally competitive market amid a crackdown on large loan defaulters. Detailed talks with lenders and shareholders failed to yield a consensus on restructuring Rs 15,500 crore of debt and getting funding, leaving resolution under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code, 2016, as the only option, Aircel said in a statement on Wednesday. Aircel’s decision to move the  NCLT  was spurred by the Reserve Bank of India’s decision to scrap debt revamp schemes in favour of the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code. “No agreement could be reached. Under current circumstances, especially after the 12 February 2018 RBI guidelines, the company believes resolution process under the Code is an appropriate recourse,” the company, majority-owned by Malaysia’s  Maxis , said in the statement.
