Jio Phone 2 vs Nokia 8110 4G: Battle of 4G Feature Phones

Reliancerecently launched the successor to the Jio Phone, the Jio Phone 2 in India. The latest variant in the feature phone segment comes with one upgrade, i.e. a QWERTY keypad. Additionally, this phone also comes with WhatsApp support. However, it must be noted that the app will become available for the Jio Phone users on August 15, 2018, via Jio app store. Just like the Jio Phone, the Jio Phone 2 is also being pitted against Nokia’s banana-shaped 4G feature phone, the Nokia 8110 4G. In this post, we will be putting these two phones against each other to gauge which one fairs better.

JioPhone 2 vs Nokia 8110 4G: Price in India

The Jio Phone 2 is priced at Rs. 2,999 and will be up for sale starting August 15, 2018. It will be available in Black colour option only. On the other hand, the Nokia 8110 4G is yet to launch in India. The phone was launched at EUR 79 (approx. Rs. 6,300) in Europe, SGD 98 (approx. Rs. 4,900) in Singapore, and GBP 78.56 (approx. Rs. 7,040) in the UK. We wonder if HMD Global will be launching it at lesser pricing in India.

JioPhone 2 vs Nokia 8110 4G: Design

Concerning aesthetics, both the Nokia 8110 4G and the Jio Phone 2 have pretty different designs. While the Jio Phone 2 sports a QWERTY BlackBerry-like design clubbed with a 2.4-inch horizontally placed screen, a 4-way navigation key and a dedicated voice command key. On the other hand, the Nokia 8110 4G has a banana-shaped design that has a slider to cover the keypad that has T9 predictive text input. It features a 2.4-inch vertically-placed screen, similar to the first edition of the Jio Phone.

JioPhone 2 vs Nokia 8110 4G: Hardware, Software, Camera

On the hardware front, the Jio Phone 2 runs KaiOS out-of-the-box, and the Nokia 8110 4G also runs the same OS. Both the phones support dual-SIM connectivity, with one slot for Micro SIM and other for Nano SIM. The 2.4-inch displays on both the phones come with 240×320 pixels resolution. The only difference is that the Jio Phone 2 has a horizontal display while the Nokia 8110 4G has a vertical screen. Hardware-wise, both the phones come with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD card. At the moment, the processor powering the Jio Phone 2 is unknown while a Snapdragon 205 SoC powers the Nokia 8110 4G.
On the imaging front, both the Jio Phone 2 and Nokia 8110 4G pack a 2MP rear sensor. The Jio Phone 2 also boasts a VGA front camera, whereas the Nokia 8110 4G has no selfie snapper. Concerning battery, the Jio Phone 2 has a slightly bigger 2000mAh battery while the Nokia 8110 4G settles for a 1500mAh battery. Connectivity options are similar on both the devices, except for NFC, which is only present on the Jio Phone 2. Nokia 8110 4G will also get WhatsApp support soon.

JioPhone 2 vs Nokia 8110 4G: Verdict

Concluding, we must point out that both the phones have the same screen size, operating system, RAM, storage, and also dual-SIM. But it must be noted that the Jio Phone 2 wins by two additional features, i.e. VGA selfie camera and NFC support. Also, going by the global pricing of the Nokia 8110 4G, it seems to be costlier than the Jio Phone 2, unless HMD Global plans to bring it at lesser pricing in India. Besides, Reliance will start selling the Jio Phone 2 starting August 15, 2018, while HMD Global is expected to launch the Nokia 8110 4G in Q3 2018 in India.

The good thing about the new addition is that Instagram has given users the option to opt-out from having their activity status visible to everyone. Here’s how...
