Pixel 3: Everything you need to know about Google’s flagship smartphone

A pre-production unit of Google Pixel 3 reveals its design and specifications. Here’s what we can expect from the smartphone.

Google will be unveiling its next-generation Pixel smartphones this fall, possibly in October. The smartphones, dubbed ‘Pixel 3’ and ‘Pixel 3 XL’, has been showing up online through leaks and rumours. The authors of a new report now claim to have gotten their hands on a pre-production unit of Pixel that reveals everything about the smartphone.
Russian website Mobile-Review details the unreleased Google Pixel 3 with its specifications and product images as well. The hands-on review of Pixel 3 discloses details that stay true to rumours and leaks of the device. Keeping that in view, here’s everything we can expect from Google Pixel 3.
Processor, RAM and storage
Google Pixel 3 will most likely be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor. The same processor is seen in flagship smartphones such as OnePlus 6 and Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Note 9. The smartphone will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Another storage variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is also expected.

Display, design
Google Pixel 3 is expected to feature a 6.4-inch Quad HD+ display. In terms of design, Google will incorporate the notch display on its Pixel 3 series. According to leaked images, Pixel 3 sports a small notch up front with a bottom bezel. The pre-production unit of Pixel 3 is white in colour with the same two-tone colour design on the rear panel. A mint-coloured power button comes as a small change on the smartphone.

Camera
Going by the report, Google is unlikely to adopt the common trend of dual-camera setups. Pixel 3 is seen with a single 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. Google’s Pixel smartphones are known to have the best cameras, and the same can be expected from the Pixel 3.
Battery, connectivity, OS
Google Pixel 3 will be fuelled by a 3,430mAh battery with a USB Type-C port for charging. There’s a fingerprint sensor at the rear. Though Google has ditched the 3.5mm audio jack even on the Pixel 3, the company is likely to ship its own USB-C headphones with it. As expected, Pixel 3 will ship with the latest Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box.
The smartphone will also have the ‘Active Edge’ feature, which enables the user to perform certain actions through gestures. Some gestures including squeezing the bottom half of the phone quickly to launch Google Assistant, and squeezing to turn on silent mode.

The company, although it is still not profitable, says it earned more than $750 million in revenue last year, and it’s cut its losses from nearly $200 million in 2016 down to just under $75 million annually. Pinterest says it was in fact profitable in the fourth quarter of 2018, but not profitable enough to get out of the red for the full calendar year. The company, headed up by original co-founder and CEO Ben Silbermann, plans to go public on the New York Stock Exchange. It joins  ride-hailing giants Uber and Lyft ,  on-demand delivery company Postmates ,  workplace communications platform Slack , and  hotel and short-term home rental service Airbnb  as one of the handful of Silicon Valley companies said to...

The self-driving car was rear-ended while merging onto an expressway near the company’s Silicon Valley headquarters New York:  An Apple Inc self-driving car was rear-ended while merging onto an expressway near the company’s Silicon Valley headquarters this month, the company said in an accident report posted on Friday that confirmed the iPhone maker is still in the race to build autonomous vehicles. Apple executives have never publicly spoken about the company’s self-driving car programme, but filings in a criminal court case last month confirmed that the company had at least 5,000 employees working on the project and that it was working on circuit boards and a “proprietary chip” related to self-driving cars. Apple is entering a crowded field where rivals such as Alphabet Inc’s Waymo unit and traditional carmakers such as General Motors Co’s Cruise Automation, as well as startups such as Silicon Valley’s Zoox, are pouring billions of dollars into cars that can drive the...
