HIGHLIGHTS The new Media menu is seen in beta v2.19.18 and later WhatsApp beta update has essentially simplified the Media menu Now, users can find where in the chat the media was shared WhatsApp has once again been spotted testing new features in its beta build for Android. This time around, we see changes to its shared 'Media' section within group or individual chats, with new options for seeing the media in the chat, a new overflow menu for setting the media as a profile photo, group icon, or wallpaper, as well as a new single rotate option. Overall, the changes seem to be aimed at simplifying the Media menu to reduce the number of options visible to the users. To recall, WhatsApp was recently seen with 21 new emoji designs in an Android beta build, and before that, a group call shortcut option was rolled out to users with stable builds. It is unclear when these features will be released as the part of the stable version available in Google Play Store.

Samsung dials 'M' to take on Xiaomi

South Korean tech giant Samsung on Monday launched its Galaxy M smartphones in the country, a series that has been designed to ground up in India, as it looks to re-capture its pole position from rival Xiaomi. Samsung has launched two models - M20 and M10 - priced at Rs 7,990 onwards that will be available online from February 5. Citing GfK data, Warsi had said the company exited the December 2018 quarter with a 40 per cent value share of the market. However, reports from other research

Jeff Bezos is launching a new conference dedicated to AI, optimism, and Amazon

The event is an extension of Amazon’s semi-secret MARS conference, but will include plenty of self-promotion For the last couple of years, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has held an annual  invite-only event  where billionaires, astronauts, and roboticists could rub shoulders and chat about the future of tech over gourmet nibbles. Now that event is being turned into a  public conference  — one that “embraces an optimistic vision for scientific discovery” and will feature demos, workshops and talks about machine learning and space exploration. “We’re at the beginning of a golden age of AI,” said Bezos in a press statement. “Recent advancements have already led to invention that previously lived in the realm of science fiction — and we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible.” The new event will be held in Las Vegas between June 4th and 7th later this year. The earlier, semi-secret conference was known as MARS (standing for Machine learning, Automation, Robotics, and Sp

Apple plans switch to USB-C for future iPhones, iPod resurrection

An interesting report from the supply chain blog  Mac Otakara  just came in saying that Apple is planning on phasing out its Lightning port on iPhones in favor of the standard UBS-C connector. According to Mac Otakara's inside sources, the engineers are already working on a reference design, but it may not make the deadline for the 2019 iPhones so we may only see it in 2020 iPhones. In addition, the source claims to have gathered plenty of information from suppliers at CES pointing to the fact that Apple aims to revive its iPod lineup as well. The new iPod is said to be aimed at runners and other fitness enthusiasts. It's all just rumors for now, but Mac Otakara has some success with predicting future products based on its supply chain sources so there might be at least some truth to it. WhatsApp to Soon Get Fingerprint Authentication on Android: Report

HIGHLIGHTS Fingerprint authentication will be required for users to open WhatsApp The new WhatsApp feature is current under development It will protect the entire WhatsApp app and not specific conversations WhatsApp is reportedly working on a fingerprint authentication feature to protect its users' chats from being seen by others. The authentication, once enabled, will be required for users to open the app. The Facebook-owned instant messaging service was recently reported to bring a similar feature to iPhone as well, supporting two biometric authentication methods - both Face ID and Touch ID. It appears this won't be limited to iPhone, and users on Android will get fingerprint authentication, but no facial recognition based authentication, thanks to the lack of a widely used standard on the platform. According to WABetaInfo, a fan site that tests new  WhatsApp  features early, the feature is current under development, and disabled by default in the Andro
